Neblina uses a Serial or UART (Universal Asynchronous Receiver/Transmitter) protocol through it's USB to communicate with a host.

Following is the list of configuration required to communicate properly with Neblina:

Option Value
COM Port See Below
Baudrate 1,000,000
Data Bits 8
Parity None
Stop Bits 1
Flow Control CTS/RTS

Retrieve COM port

In order to connect neblina to the computer, the COM port is required. Follow these steps to retrieve the COM port name associated with Neblina, depending on your platform.

Linux

  • Disconnect Neblina from the computer, if already connected, and then turn it off.
  • Prior to connecting Neblina, execute the following command at the terminal.
    • If connected through Neblina Development Kit USB: $ ls /dev/ttyACM*
    • If connected through Neblina USB: $ ls /dev/ttyUSB*
  • Connect Neblina to the computer using the USB port. Note that Neblina should be turned off when plugging it into the computer.
  • Run ls /dev/ttyACM* or ls /dev/ttyƙSB* again and find the change to the list of ports. The COM ports names follow the /dev/ttyACMx pattern (where x is the associated COM port number)
  • It is required to give permissions to use the COM port. Set with the following command by replace x with the associated COM port number, and <username> by the currently logged in user:
$ chown <username> /dev/ttyACMx (or /dev/ttyUSBx)

Mac

  • Disconnect Neblina from the computer, if already connected, and then turn it off.
  • Prior to connecting Neblina, execute the following command at the terminal.
$ ls /dev/tty*
  • Connect Neblina to the computer using the USB port. Note that Neblina should be turned off when plugging it into the computer.
  • Run ls /dev/tty* again and find the change to the list of ports. The COM ports names follow the /dev/tty.x pattern (where x is the associated COM port identifier)

Windows

  • Disconnect Neblina from the computer, if already connected, and then turn it off.
  • Prior to connecting Neblina, open Device Manager and navigate to Ports (COM & LTP).
  • Connect Neblina to the computer using the USB port. Note that Neblina should be turned off when plugging it into the computer.
  • Monitor the change to the list of COM ports. The COM ports names follow the COMx pattern (where x is the associated COM port number)
